The rules have changed; JET now has an upper limit of five years. Does that mean I'm going to stay on the program for five whole years? Probably not, but...BUT a fourth year is possible and as such I'm coming home again this Christmas just in case I stay in Japan longer. The gods of travel are merciless, fickle, and rather good knitters, so I'm purchasing a round-trip ticket this time. So December 18th to January 5th, e-mail for appointments soon. ha ha.  ha...nobody loves me...

I was the semiofficial Kitaarima Junior High Bunkasai (Culture Festival) this year. I took numerous (mostly crap pictures) but these are a few of my favorites.

First up was the band, playing such classical pieces as The Theme of Sazae-san, and The Ending Theme of Sazae-san, and The Opening of Chibi Maruko-chan, and superb rendition of Cutey Honey: Trasformazione nuda delle donne potenti, in C major for sax and clarinet.

Intermission: Student gallery

"I knew we couldn't go wrong with this year's theme of Freud presents: Jenga and Lemons, An Exploration!."

Who DOESN'T love garlic and it's near LIMITLESS applications in our glorious well-flavored future!? Added bonus, last two pages were full-sized drawing of characters from The Prince of Tennis.

Class 2-2 tries to show us the magical worlds of Hayao Miyazaki. Wanted: new 2-2 class to try to feed spirit for gold. All I got from this one was plastic bottles and newspaper.

Next was my favorite part of Culture Fest, the plays. This year was no different from any other year, crossdressing, crossdressing, and more crossdressing, the boys just can't get enough of skirtsuits and frilly lace.

One inevitability of Culture Fest, other then boys dressing up as girls, is a play were all the characters stand around a lot and reflect on past mistakes and current/future problems in their lives (they're usually freshly dead or not born yet or some such). It's lots of talking, sitting in semicircles, and not choosing oblivion.

I love the shot of garbage No-Face sitting alone and unattended in some corner of the gym. And I didn't realize all schools do the existential "not chose the oblivion" play during bunkasai. Considering the hell that is being a jr. high school student in any country, I always strikes me as a good idea.

Those bottom pictures look like a play where the only emotion felt is shame... Thus I shall call it "Shames of the Heart".
